Distance traveled: 9.8 km
Duration: 3 hours 30 minutes moving
Minimum altitude: 23 meters
Maximum altitude: 542 meters
uphill Total ascent: 550 meters
Difficulty: The difficulty this route is low until we got to the needles, from here I think the difficulty is high because you have to climb to crown needles and the trail is not marked with paint but with some milestones. It is therefore not recommend this portion of the route walkers or agile little fear of climbs. Hikers
: Raul and I
Route description: This Saturday would have made the journey to see us proposed Dani Alcala from Espadán Betxí to peak. But Saturday dawned with heavy rain and suspended the route. Every cloud has a silver lining and take this occasion to pay off on Sunday one of the large debts that I have with the trails in the province of Castellón. The climb to the Santa Agueda and needles usually palm desert area where he had never done any route. I must confess that I was surprised this park and especially the hands of Santa Agueda. The route started at the cemetery Benicasim about 23 meters above sea level, we have to rise to the famous Needles Santa Agueda. Rodeno stunning needles rising over a small ridge a few meters from the Mediterranean Sea.
hooked in the cemetery with the Pr-397 CV we will go directly to these needles take the road that passes in front of the cemetery on the left or north, we below about tunnels that pass under the motorway and follow road until some time on that soon we paddle indicator that we will turn left onto a road that gets between orange groves.
This path is a strange to our surprise greenhouses where oranges are grown. This surprises us much because we had never seen orange trees in greenhouse always very well bred outdoor "walk with the hands in front to them direct.
finally leave the road to take path as you can see in the photo have always needles front and the vegetation is hard hit by the fires. Yet many pine trees are growing and many young strawberry with some oak and brushwood, gorse and rosemary as the main shrubs. The area is recovering well and makes sure that if you do not suffer any fire this route within a few decades will be much more beautiful and shady.
Little by little we gain height and if we look back we have a beautiful coastal views
After a while we came to a junction of paths, we find an indicator in a refreshing palette shadow zone produced by adult pine trees. The palette shows straight up to the needles and left to the carrerassa Benicasim of Revollo.
The path is getting steeper, we're getting to the needles
In this picture we have very close to the needles can also be seen in the background the crest of this ridge
Finally we reached a pass where we find a great palette needle indicator northern front. Here we leave the Pr that goes down the other side of the ridge. From here continue along a path marked by milestones that goes directly to this great needle where we plan to have lunch.
The large needle north. If you look there are people in the stone in the foreground.
We went up this trail quite covered by vegetation and it is sometimes difficult to follow for this reason. must be very attentive to the milestones, if we look back we see in this picture the foothills of this range.
I'm surprised this stretch of road in a very positive because in contrast to the calcined base of this range. Up here the trees are large, have survived many fires and some ancient oaks and large pines. The shrub layer is formed mainly by Heather, Kermes, Jaras and some Rusco. Reminds me of my dear Espadán saw
A small cork
finally begins the difficult part of the route, first climbed into the big needle where we have lunch . They are very difficult climbs at least for us although I'm sure there are people who will give you a little scared to get down here or worse. I therefore recommend careful to make this route not recommended for people with little agility.
We reached the top of the large needle to some 542 feet in an hour and a quarter or so. In the background we see the rest of the rugged mountains. Soon we will be at the top of the next needle.
This photo shows a tight grip because Raul is a good drop on both sides but especially on the west side much more vertical.Decidimos down a few meters for lunch.
the West see the desert palms with Bartolo and its distinctive antennas.
lunch with these magnificent views of the Mediterranean
This photo shows the green conservatory that we've been and people we come from Benicassim. But it seems that despite being only 542 meters there is a hard climb up here.
deserved After lunch we went down again to the path and follow ridge to the next needle through this beautiful forest of oaks and pines.
This photo shows the range for which we are peaks and large needle south.
We reached a sort of shelf between the two needles in the bottom photo shows the north where we have uploaded needle
This route allows us to remember moments good as this, is simply spectacular walk to the mountain range.
I can not resist climbing up these huge masses of rodeno
We now have to climb the central needle as you see in the picture There are steep
But as kids enjoy these climbs
At the top of the central spire well agarradito
Pictured is as follows crested the ridge with a spectacular formations. Too bad we do not have all day to keep crested, we plan to eat at home. So we decided to turn around and go back where we came
the background of this picture shows the south still large needle quite far
Needle south "is still pending for climbing"
planning we go back and come back here to finish the ridge crest, we take all day to do this since above was proceeding slowly because of the climbs.
We reached the hill where once again we take the D to Benicasim
View of the large needle north we climbed the first
Bonita
picture of Santa Agueda needles where we climbed
The descent is fast and when we realize we are back in the fields with needles far enough. Soon we will be back in the starting point.
Best of the route without a doubt how much fun it is for the climbs, views and vegetation found in the top of the range.
worst start of the route a bit dull due to the fields and that this mountain punished by fire.
Advisable not to travel in summer
